BAWKU WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

BAWKU WEST DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE ENGUAGES CHIEFS AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS IN THE DISTRICT ON SANITATION
Sanitation has become a major concern in the Bawku West District. The indiscriminate disposal of waste, especially polythene bags and other plastic waste, has left many open spaces, undeveloped lands, bushes, and surroundings of homes heavily polluted. This situation has not only affected the aesthetic beauty of the district but also poses serious environmental and public health risks.
On the 24th of February, 2026, the Bawku West District Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. James Ayamwego, the DCE, engaged key stakeholders to share its proposed strategies, solicit inputs, and build collective ownership towards restoring cleanliness and environmental order in the district.
The meeting brought together Divisional Chiefs, Sub-Chiefs with recognized markets in their jurisdictions, and leadership of Religious Groups to deliberate on practical and sustainable measures to clear polythene and other disposable waste from our communities and to prevent further indiscriminate disposal.
The meeting ended with strong commitments from the chiefs and religious leaders to help the assembly address the challenges in the sector.
