BAWKU WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West District in the upper East Region, Mr. James Ayamwego presented various essential items to 141Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to ensure their livelihoods and to promote their economic independence.

Beneficiaries received items including 6 refrigerators, 6 sewing machines, 20 white canes, 30 walking crutches and 4 irrigation pumping machines with accessories, while 75 others received cash support to start income generating ventures.

Beneficiaries were urged to remain focused, ambitious and patient in growing their businesses, adding that success will not only improve their personal lives but also help them support their families. The DCE further advised them to cultivate a saving culture by using formal banking systems to secure their earnings and ensure financial stability.

The District Social Welfare and Community Development Focal Officer, Mr. Robert Awinzo, noted that his department would strictly monitor the use of funds and equipment provided to PWDs to prevent misuse. He said receipts and invoices covering all purchases and payments would be thoroughly verified. Mr. Awinzo reaffirmed the government commitment to sustaining such social support programs aimed at reducing the vulnerability of PWDs and improving their livelihoods. He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items received rather than complain about unemployment, stressing that effective use of the support would enhance their standard of living and contributes to community development.
