BAWKU WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

Bawku West District joined in the National Clean-Up Exercise. On October 4, 2025, the district took part in the event, which was led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. James Ayamweogo, along with government officials, private organizations, and security agencies. During the exercise, a taskforce, led by the Hon. DCE, shut down stores that didn’t meet cleanliness standards, and warned that those responsible would face consequences.
Hon. James Ayamweogo, the DCE, guided the exercise and stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
The District Environmental Health Officer, Alexander Kunlanzumah Sibiri, raised concerns about overflowing container sites in the district.
He suggested using YEA riders to assist with sanitation efforts. He also proposed hiring graduates from the School of Hygiene to help with staff shortages and improve sanitation management. He added that sanitation is a continuous effort and that everyone must work together.
Charles Yinbil Awuni, the Acting Regional Environmental Health Officer, spoke on behalf of the Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugre.
He emphasized that sanitation is a shared duty and linked it directly to good health. He encouraged everyone to take part in future clean-up activities to improve public health.
In an interview with Zebs Fm, the District Engineer, Mr. Awarikaro Moses, explained that the clean-up aimed to improve general health and wellbeing.
This was done by cleaning drainage systems along major highways, making sure water could flow easily into main drains.
During the three-hour clean-up period, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., shops and stores were closed to ensure full participation and avoid any interruptions.
This initiative is part of the government’s renewed “Clean Up Ghana” campaign, which aims to boost environmental sanitation and encourage civic responsibility.
