During the year, the department in collaboration with SADEP, built the capacity of 1,200 smallholder farmers (SHFs) on maize and soybean value chains to increase maize and soya bean through a 2-day training which was replicated in the eleven (11) SADEP. Before the capacity building, these were supported with inorganic fertilizers under a grant to boost their maize and soya bean production. A total of 677 females and 523 males participated in the 2-day step-down training sessions replicated nine (9) localities. This is to increase climate-smart local food production and enhance food and nutrition security for women, youth, and vulnerable
The Project also facilitated the acceleration of large-scale maize-soya bean-cowpea production at Tilli in the adoption CA (Conservation Agriculture) principles.
Under the same Project 40 female Layer beneficiaries were trained in efficient management of Layers and medication to boost productivity. This was after supporting the 40 female farmers with Battery Cage and 120 birds to facilitate large-scale commercial poultry production to enhance food nutrition and incomes.
