Bawku West District Assembly Empowers Persons with Disabilities with GH¢1.37 Million Support Package

BAWKU WEST, October 27, 2026 – In a major push toward economic self-reliance and social inclusion, the Bawku West District Assembly has distributed livelihood items and financial aid worth GH¢1,371,000 to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the district.

The comprehensive support package is designed to boost the economic well-being of beneficiaries and includes:
• Financial Aid: Direct cash assistance awarded to 117 individuals to support their various needs.
• Enterprise Support: 20 business containers provided to 20 beneficiaries to set up retail shops. The Assembly committed to roofing these structures and offering extra funding to help launch and expand the businesses.
• Mobility & Tools: Distribution of wheelchairs and water pumping machines to enhance daily living and agricultural productivity.
• Livestock Rearing: 135 female sheep distributed among 45 beneficiaries (three sheep each) to kickstart sustainable livestock businesses.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, Hon. James Ayamweogo, urged the beneficiaries and their families to maximize the utility of the items. He emphasized that the aid must be used strictly for its intended purposes to foster true economic independence and meaningfully upgrade their livelihoods.
Echoing the DCE’s sentiment, Mr. Alariba Samuel Azumah, President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations in the Bawku West District, encouraged recipients to maintain the items and manage their new resources productively. He further appealed to local communities to support PWDs, particularly in managing their livestock and developing their enterprises.
This intervention aligns with broader local governance goals to advance the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities and ensure their active participation in community development.
